Women's Clothing Size Converter
Convert women's clothing sizes between US, UK, EU, French, and Italian sizing so you know what to order from any store.
| US | UK | EU | France | Italy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | 12 | 40 | 40 | 44 |
Sizing varies by brand and by era (vanity sizing is real). If you land between two sizes here, check that brand's own measurement chart before you order.
How it works
Pick the size system you already know and the size you wear, and the converter shows you the matching size in every other system. It works off a fixed set of offsets that hold across the standard US even-number range (0 through 16): UK adds 4 to the US size, EU adds 32, France matches EU exactly, and Italy adds another 4 on top of EU.
Worked example: a US size 8 dress. Add 4 for UK and you get a UK 12. Add 32 for EU and you get a European 40, which is also the French size. Add 4 more to the EU number for Italy and you land on a 44. So a US 8 is a UK 12, an EU/FR 40, and an IT 44, all the same garment measurements, just labeled by a different system's scale.
FAQ
Why do EU and French sizes match?
France uses the same numbering as the general European size chart, so once you know the EU number you already have the French one. Italy is the outlier: it runs 4 sizes larger on the same chart, which is why a size that reads EU 40 shows up as Italian 44 on the same rack.
Will this be exact for every brand?
Not always. These conversions describe the size label, not the garment's actual measurements. Two brands both selling a US 8 can cut it differently, and vintage or older pieces were sized on entirely different charts (vanity sizing has crept the modern US number smaller over the decades). Treat the converted size as your starting point for browsing, then check the measurement chart on the specific brand's site.
What if my size falls between two of the listed sizes?
Round to the nearest size shown and lean toward sizing up if you're between two, since it's easier to tailor a garment down than to let one out. A brand's own chart with bust, waist, and hip measurements will settle it more precisely than any label conversion can.
Does this cover men's or children's sizing?
No, this converter is built for women's dress and clothing sizes specifically. Men's and children's size charts use different numbering entirely and don't share these offsets.
